Welcome to Scottish Athletics International - the organizing body for Highland Games championships.

At Scottish Athletics International (SAI), we believe the true heart of sport lies in opportunity — and every athlete, regardless of background, age, or ability, deserves a championship moment. That's why we are proud to announce our bold vision: to host championship games for all classes of athletes around the world.

From rising youth stars, to seasoned veterans, to masters competitors — our mission is simple: championship platforms for everyone.

Whether it's on the track, the field, or the cross-country trail, SAI is setting a new standard for access, recognition, and excellence in athletics. Our championship events will not only showcase elite performance but also celebrate personal triumphs, community pride, and the unifying power of sport.

Our Vision in Action

  • Multi-Class Championships: Events built for every level — junior, lightweight, and masters — held at world-class venues.

  • Equal Recognition: Unified podiums, equal media coverage, and honor for all champions.

  • Pathways to Progress: Talent identification and development programs leading from grassroots to global competition.

Why It Matters

Sport is a mirror of society — and celebrating everyone isn't just a goal, it's a responsibility. By expanding the reach of championship games to all classes, SAI is redefining what it means to be an athlete and opening the gates for all to be part of something greater.

Masters Athletics

Scottish Athletics Int. organizes the Masters World Championships (MWC) for athletes aged 40 and older. We work with Athletic Directors providing resources and sharing some responsibility to making the Master’s Worlds go off without a hitch. Each year a new host games is chosen. This provides opportunities for beautiful sightseeing , easier travel on local athletes, and the chance to meet new and old friends again.

All world records for Master athletes are kept by SAI. Further details can be found in the Records section of this website.

All invites for MWC come exclusively from heavyathlete.com, a top-notch replacement for the classic NASGA website. So please help us make that website the new default location worldwide for all games and all scores; have your Athletic Director create an account and upload their scores.

Lightweight Athletes

Starting in 2025 SAI took over the coordination for Men’s US Lightweight Nationals and Men’s Lightweight Worlds. We are bringing our experience with Master’s Worlds to growing the Lightweight class and bringing these championships to a new level.

Heavyathlete.com moving forward will be the source for scores and therefore invites to both of these events. Our goal this year is to have a page showing current rankings for US Nationals and World Championship invites. This will allow everyone to see where they stand year round and know what they need to do to step on the stage with the best.

As in past years, we are working on setting our Stewards for the US Nationals. The goal is to get back to having at least 3 festivals that this premier event rotates through each year. Currently, our Stewards are the games of the Dublin Irish Festival for 2025 and Salt Lake City Highland Games in 2026.
