Eligibility is determined by age class as of the date of competition.

-
Eligibility is based on results from a defined list of recognized competition sources. Currently this includes a dozen websites from around the world. Athletes whose results appear in those sources within the eligibility window may qualify regardless of the specific sanctioning body. Contact SAI directly if you are uncertain whether your results qualify.
Ranking & Invitation Process
-
SAI compiles athlete results from up to 12 recognized sources covering a defined eligibility window. Results are scored using a Decathlon-style points methodology that allows fair comparison across different venues and conditions. Athletes are ranked within their age and weight class based on their highest-scoring eligible result.
-
SAI draws results from a recognized list of Highland Games competitions and databases. The full list of eligible sources is available on the SAI website. Results must fall within the published eligibility window to be considered.
-
SAI invites the top 12 ranked athletes per class based on the compiled rankings. In the event that an invited athlete declines or is unable to attend, invitations may be extended to the next-ranked eligible athlete.
One addition to the top athletes is if an athletes has won any MWC contested class the previous year that are automatically part of the 12 athletes to be invited.
-
If you believe your results are missing or incorrectly recorded, contact SAI with documentation of your competition results — including the event name, date, and a verifiable result — as soon as possible. SAI will review submitted corrections prior to the close of the ranking period.
-
Invitations are issued following the close of the eligibility window and completion of the ranking process. In 2026 that is May 18th. Athletes will be notified directly by SAI. Invitation timelines are published on the SAI website.
