An Athlete Gets an Idea…
The son of Bill Rogers, who himself was a 4-time Champion and is a member of the Masters Hall of Fame, Kevin and Bill are the first father-son World Champions and Hall of Famers in the history of the games.
Kevin spent 5 years competing at Lightweight Nationals, then 25 straight years at Masters Worlds. including 15 years competing and 10 years as Executive Director of the MWCs and Scottish Masters Athletics International, Inc. He held a 10-year winning streak in hammers at Worlds, including several lightweight Masters World Records and Open stone records. Co-Champion with Doug Ballard in MWC Michigan and Co-Champion with Jim Spalding in MWC Scotland. Founder of Ancient Athletics, and Host of MWC 2021 Springfield, Illinois.
During his time as the Executive Director of the Masters World Championships, he was presented with a Guinness World Records Certification by the Guinness program at the MWC Scotland, where the assembled athletes broke the record for Caber Tossing. Additionally, Kevin invited women for the first time, as well as including the sheaf toss and the spinning weight over bar- all controversial at the time.
“I’m the guy who added women to the event after there were no women in the first two MWCs, and many guys didn’t really want them included. I also hosted the first event that included competitors from Canada and Scotland. I also lead the organization to Competitions in the US, Canada, Iceland, Germany, and Scotland.”
Kevin worked hard to make the Masters World Championship a true World Championship, and since retiring as Executive Director he has continued to compete well into his 60’s.
